Running Subway Productions has acquired the rights to Agatha Christie's masterpiece Witness for the Prosecution. This is the first time in over 50 years that the Christie estate has granted the 1st-class rights to the beloved drama. Plans are in motion to find a creative team and a home on Broadway for late 2009.
Witness for the Prosecution, a timeless piece, is set in an intense courtroom where a scheming wife testifies against her husband in a shocking murder trial. Originally staged in 1953 in London's West End, Witness received nightly standing ovations and played over 460 performances followed by another 645 performances on Broadway. The play was then adapted to the big screen in 1957 in what has now become one of the most classic films of its time. Both the play and movie garnered multiple awards including 2 Tony Awards and 6 Academy Awards nominations, among others.
